A beautifully preserved French rat de cave, a traditional candle holder once used to illuminate the dim wine cellars, caves, and storerooms of rural France.
Designed with a distinctive hand-forged spiral shaft, the candle would rest securely within the iron coil, allowing it to burn steadily while protecting the flame and catching wax as it melted. The curved hook at the top made it easy to carry or suspend, while the solid hand-carved wooden base provided stability on uneven stone floors.
