Large Antique French Primitive Wooden Cutting Board

$250.00

Era: 19th to early 20th century

Origin: France

Material: Wood

Dimensions: 21” H × 14” W x 2” Thickness

DESCRIPTION

A beautifully timeworn French piece, chosen for the extraordinary richness of its wood and the patina that only comes with age.

Hand-shaped from a substantial piece of solid wood, this antique French cutting board has a wonderfully sculptural silhouette, with angled shoulders rising toward a simple central handle. The surface is especially beautiful—layers of warm, weathered wood grain, softened edges, darkened markings, old wormholes, and the traces of years of use have created a depth and character that simply cannot be replicated.

There is something particularly special about humble objects like this. Once made for everyday use, years of handling have transformed the wood into something quietly beautiful. Every mark, variation in tone, and worn edge feels like part of its story.

Its generous scale and nearly two-inch thickness give it wonderful presence. Sourced in France and found during our travels to Round Top, it would be beautiful leaning against a kitchen wall, layered among antique pottery and stoneware, or displayed simply on its own as a piece of found French wooden art.

CONDITION

Beautiful antique condition with substantial age-related character and wear. The wood has developed a rich, varied patina with surface scratches, darkened areas, worn edges, old wormholes, small losses, and natural cracks throughout. A more prominent age-related crack is present along one side, as shown in the photographs.

A suede cord is threaded through the handle. Due to the substantial weight of the board, appropriate secure hardware should be used if displayed hanging.

The wear and imperfections are an integral part of the beauty of this antique piece and speak to its age, history, and former life. Please review all photographs closely for condition.
