Era: Early 20th Century
Origin: France
Material: Bentwood with metal banding
Dimensions: 8” H × 8” D
Once used to measure dry goods in French shops and households, this antique demi-décalitre measure is one of those utilitarian pieces that has only grown more beautiful with time.
Made of bentwood and reinforced with metal bands, it retains its wonderfully faded green-painted finish and original DEMI DÉCALITRE lettering. A demi-décalitre corresponds to five liters, a reminder of the practical purpose this piece once served. Years of handling and use have left behind layers of worn paint, exposed wood, oxidation and patina that give it so much character.
Today, it feels wonderfully sculptural. I love it filled with dried branches or simply left empty on a table, open shelf or kitchen counter, where its worn surface and old French lettering can be appreciated.
A beautiful example of an everyday object becoming something worth keeping.

+Material: Bentwood with metal banding
+Dimensions: 8” H × 8” D
Beautiful antique condition with considerable age and wear throughout. The original green-painted surface is heavily worn, revealing areas of the natural wood beneath. Expect scratches, marks, discoloration, oxidation to the metal bands and irregularities associated with age and decades of use.
The interior also shows significant wear and patina consistent with its original utilitarian purpose. These imperfections are part of the history and character of the piece.
