LARGE VINTAGE FRENCH CREAM-GLAZED CONFIT POT

$296.00

Era: Vintage

Origin: France

Material: Glazed earthenware

Dimensions: 13” H × 10” opening

DESCRIPTION

There is something particularly beautiful about the old pottery of the French countryside—the generous proportions, simple forms, and subtle imperfections of pieces once made for everyday life.

This very large French confit pot immediately caught our eye for its wonderful scale and quiet simplicity. Its broad, rounded body is finished in a soft cream glaze, with subtle variations in tone that shift from warm ivory to pale, timeworn beige. Two substantial handles sit just beneath the shoulders, while delicate horizontal throwing lines circle the upper portion of the vessel, a lovely reminder of the hand of the maker.

At thirteen inches tall with an unusually generous ten-inch opening, this is a substantial piece with wonderful presence. Despite its scale, the restrained palette gives it a softness that allows it to settle beautifully into both traditional and more pared-back interiors.

We love it on a large kitchen island or old farmhouse table, filled with an abundant gathering of olive branches, leafy clippings, or dried stems. It would be equally beautiful left empty, where its sculptural form can stand on its own, or layered with antique breadboards, ironstone, old French linens, and other collected pottery.

A wonderfully understated piece—the kind of old utilitarian object that brings warmth, texture, and a sense of history into a room without asking for too much attention.
